What is a cash receipt journal?

It's a record of every time the business gets cash. So, whenever the company receives money, like from sales or payments, it's put in a cash receipt journal.

You'd use it when you prepare your financial statements, because it has a record of your cash income.

Receipt means receiving things, so it's a record of the cash you've received. You'd probably have the name of the company or person that paid you, the amount, the date, and a quick description of what the money was for.
