What is carrying value?

It's how much an asset is worth on the books after accounting for things like wear and tear. So, if a machine costs $10,000 and has $2,000 in depreciation, its carrying value is $8,000.

Carrying value is the asset's value that's recorded on the balance sheet. That would be the original cost to purchase it, minus depreciation.

Carrying value is the value of an asset on the company's books. It's basically the current value, rather than the original purchase price, because it considers how much value the asset has lost.
