A job card acts like a detailed diary for a specific task oof a project. It records the essentials, like how long it took and what resources were used.

I think job cards are a great tool for accountability. You get little daily reports, essentially, from each employee. It makes it harder for things to get behind without you knowing about it. That's really important when you're trying to keep a project on time and on budget.

Of course, job cards are different in different jobs, but the idea is basically the same. In manufacturing or construction, they're records for work that was done, but it's different in something a little less tangible, like IT or consulting. Instead of how many bricks were laid, it might be billable hours.

Also, along the lines of accountability, they often include signatures from supervisors and workers so you know the information had to be reviewed. If not, the supervisor who signed it can answer for it.

If there's a dispute about when work was completed, job cards can act like helpful bits of evidence that you've done the work.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but most places are using digital job cards. That makes it so they can be stored and reviewed years later if there's a question about something. It's easier to keep it all in one location, like the cloud, because cards can be submitted at the end of the day from a smartphone, and instantly uploaded to the company's server. It makes it easier to get supervisor signatures too, because they don't need to be physically present to sign it.
